Board Policy on Parent Involvement

The Adelaide L. Sanford Charter School Board of Trustees believes that the education of children is a partnership that it shares with the parents/guardians and the school community. We believe that it is imperative that we maintain strong communication with our parents/guardians to ensure that the best interest of our students is central to our decisions. Parent involvement is encouraged in this process.

The Board of Trustees recognizes that parents/guardians play a critical role in the development of their children. The welfare and education of their children is shaped by the involvement of the parent/guardian. We believe that parents/guardians are the child's first teachers. They are familiar with the needs, problems, gifts and abilities of their children. Therefore, staff should seek to involve parents/guardians as much as possible in the planning of the student's program.

Parents/guardians must, by law, be included in the development of certain educational programs for their children.

Parents/guardians are asked to keep the school apprised of changes in factors in the home situation that may affect pupil conduct or performance. Parents/guardians are requested to inform the school of any changes in legal custody of the child.

Parents/guardians are responsible for their child's punctuality, attendance, cleanliness and proper uniforms.

The School Leader shall develop procedures to implement this policy. These procedures shall include use of the parent/guardian's native language when necessary.
